The mark goes in your footer, not ours
Customers who run their published work through the standard may carry the Owned AI mark on their own site. It is a maker's mark. It stays small, it takes your type colour, and it says one specific thing.
LAST REVIEWED 01 SEP 2026Two hosts, two palettes, one credit
Both footers below are the host's own design. The credit inherits their colour and their spacing, and the plate is the only Owned AI element on the page.
The mark has no company initial in it, which is what lets it sit here. A letter would read as a badge from a supplier. A struck plate reads as a hallmark on the host's own work, which is what it is.
What carrying the mark asserts
This matters more than the artwork. A mark that means something vague is worth nothing to the person reading it.
Three permitted variants, and nothing else
Pick the smallest one that still reads. Most sites should use the one-line footer credit.
When the carrier is not the client
A marketing or contract agency running its own work on the standard is the most likely party to carry the mark into work it delivers for someone else. That case needs its own rules.
- D01The signer is named, and their employer is namedOn delivered work the credit resolves to a person at the agency, not to the client. A reader can tell who signed.
- D02The client must agree in writingThe agency cannot put the mark on a client site without the client site owner accepting the claim above.
- D03The credit covers what the agency producedPages the client wrote or later edited fall outside it. The manifest states the scope.
- D04If the client edits a governed page, the credit comes offEditing breaks the link between the artifact and the signature. A new signature restores it.
- D05One credit per pageThe agency does not stack its own credit beside ours, and neither do we.
The short version: the mark says a named person stood behind this before it was published. It never says the work is right, and it never quietly transfers responsibility from the agency to the client or from either of them to us.
Three steps, and we check before you publish
The programme is free for customers. We review the placement once, because a mark used loosely is worse than no mark.
- E01Ask, and tell us which pagesName the pages or documents the credit will cover. Whole-domain claims are not granted.
- E02Accept the claim in writingA one-page agreement stating what the mark asserts and does not assert.
- E03Send us the placementWe look at it on your site, on mobile and in print if you print. We come back within five working days.
